Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobie is a word which reflects itself, a definition which goes round in circles. As our fears - underlying obsessions - which come back in a cyclical way and frustrate our sense of memory, a few episodes are played, repeated, accelerated. Elements come across one another, lose all sense of chronology, are completed like a song chorus, go out into the light. A film that is rewound, mirror of the absurd enumeration of our phobias. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, or the fear of words that are too long.
The Collective Es was founded in 2011 under the impulse of Sidonie, Emilie and Jeremy. As they shared a similar training in the CNSMD in Lyon, they decided to unite and they made their first creation P’Lay’s (for four performers) which was presented to audiences in France and in Germany. As an echo to the creation, Sidonie, Emilie and Jeremy intervened in schools and high-schools to organise workshops in collaboration with the CCN of Rillieux-la-Pape, the ESPE of Lyon, the Opera of Lyon and the CDC-Le Pacifique of Grenoble. In 2014, in collaboration with the CCNR and the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, they create the piece “Experiences” for a group of amateurs.
The same year, in november, Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobie* is rewarded at the 6th edition of the competition Reconnaissance (organized by the CDC-Le Pacifique in Grenoble) with the prize of the public and the prize of honor of Communicating Dance.
