ALEA is the Latin word chosen by Roger Caillois to associate all the games connected to chance, daring, gambling, mystery of fate and superstition.

In ALEA (iacta est) the two players enjoy themselves by acting a sort of no narrative story the meaning of which lays in the ritualistic scheme of their actions. They two participants appear deeply and seriously involved in starting many different paths where, the possibilities to create a dialogue through their body physicality and dynamism, becomes the basic rule of the game. Like dice they preserve a single attitude for the game but they need each other in order to reach the final, the real and most human configuration.

Like “the black” and “the red”, “the pair” and “un-pair”, they are opposite but supportive. ALEA micro-cosmos becomes a sort of visionary landscape. Past and present are combined in a suspended atmosphere.
The two inhabitants play with symbols, gesture and figurative actions, as if they were the last means of cohesiveness between two survivors of a lost community.

Bird’s Eye View is a visionary landscape where the only inhabitant, like a pioneer or a survivor, embodies a dialogue with a sort of camouflaging game, playing with a thought between human and animal state.

The choreography aims to follow the idea of shifting the point of view of the body in space, as if it were caught at a glance, during the timing of a flight. Appearing, hiding, disfiguring, sectioning, unbalancing…

Simona Bertozzi is an italian choreographer, dancer and performer based in Bologna (Italy), where she attended the University and graduated in Theatre and Dance Theories. As a freelance dancer she has worked with several choreographers and contemporary dance companies in Italy and Europe: Compagnia Morphè, Compagnia Laudati Danza, Laminarie Teatro, Tomas Aragai-cia Doctor Alonso.
Since 2005 she has been collaborating with Compagnia Virgilio Sieni, based in Florence.
